Fines and Fees
Fines
In order to improve the customer experience, we’re making some changes to our fines/fees.
What’s changing?
The most exciting change:
MPL will no longer be charging a replacement fee for lost or stolen library cards!
We have waived the fees associated with lost or stolen cards and you can now replace your library card for free! Simply come into any branch, report the missing card and receive your new card.
In addition, we will be implementing a charge of $1 for the non-pickup of a hold or ILLO request.
Doing so will ensure that items are not held up unnecessarily within the HOLDS/ILLO process ensuring the full collection is available for our patrons.
If you have placed a hold or ILLO request, you have seven days to pick up the item in order to avoid a fine. If you will be going away for a period of time, you can contact us or go online to freeze your hold request for the duration of your absence.
We look forward to serving you better!
Changes will take effect September 3, 2019.
Fines are charged for materials returned to the library after the date they are due. They may be returned up until midnight of the date they are due without a fine. Fines are not charged on days the library is closed.
Important: Please note that up-to-date fine totals are calculated once materials have been returned to the library (therefore fines appearing in your account may not reflect final amounts due).
- $1.00 per day for overdue Frequent Flyers (except DVD Frequent Flyers), Games and DVDs to a $10.00 maximum
