Celebrating Stories

Celebrating Stories is a series of free family literacy events that offers a unique opportunity for children and families to meet Canadian authors, illustrators, and storytellers live and in-person. Where children have only seen authors’ names printed on the spines of books, Celebrating Stories events provide the opportunity to meet prizewinning authors in-person, hear their stories, and see illustrations being brought to life. Celebrating Stories strengthens family literacy and learning through the shared love of reading with motivational messages and entertainment.

Writing Workshop with Sylvia McNicoll

Sylvia McNicoll has written dozens of books, edited magazines and currently teaches at Sheridan College. The Celebrating Stories committee is inviting all emerging writers, ages 9-12, to learn from and write with author Sylvia. Character, setting, and plot – all will come together for story creation and sharing. Sylvia prides herself in turning her mistakes into mysteries: The Great Mistake Mysteries. Let her show you how to turn your own error and recovery into the arc of a great story. Bring your favourite writing instruments.

Best suited for age 9 – 12.
Registration begins October 21. Space is limited.

We would like to extend a big thank you to our sponsors for making this series possible:
