Milton Will Soon Be Gamified

Quest Milton logoThere’s a new game in town and it might not be what you’re expecting! Coming to the App Store and Google Play in February 2018 is Quest Milton, a free gaming app that encourages players to use and visit local services in a fun and creative way. Explore the town, collect tokens, and redeem prizes – all with Quest Milton!

The Milton Public Library, along with its partners Community Services at the Town of Milton, Conservation Halton and Heritage Services at Halton Region, have all joined forces to “gamify” community engagement. Thanks to funding from the Ontario government through the Ontario Libraries Capacity Fund, Research & Innovation stream, Miltonians will have the first-ever municipal gaming app, where tokens can be earned, collected, and exchanged for real-world rewards, such as a free drop-in swim passes or waived library fines.

Milton Public Library strives to inspire the community through discovery, collaboration, and creation. "We hope that this unique gaming app will help to engage Miltonians in an exciting and captivating way with the services offered across the Town of Milton and Halton Region. It’s a free, easy-to-use game for all ages that includes point scoring, competition with others, and encourages users to participate in activities and day-to-day tasks in an entertaining way," shares Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Librarian of Milton Public Library. "We are hugely grateful to the Province of Ontario for their grant to fund the development of Quest Milton as well as the support and participation of our key partners".

Come mid-February, Quest Milton will be available for both iOS and Android devices. Once downloaded, players can sign up with their Milton Public Library card and create a free account in the app. Game playing and token collecting begins immediately upon download.

For technology trend setters, beta versions of Quest Milton for both iOS and Android devices were unveiled on January 8th, 2018. Visit us online or stop by the Main Library or Beaty Branch to submit your email address to participate in the beta version today. The Quest Milton trailer can be viewed on YouTube.

If you live, work, or go to school in the Town of Milton, you are eligible for a library card, at no cost. Existing patrons can visit www.mpl.on.ca or drop by a library branch to learn more about Quest Milton. Quest Milton... It’s the game that takes you there!
