I am a lifelong learner with a connection to many different libraries over the years. Born and raised in Waterloo, I have been a resident of rural Milton for 20 years and am a married father of two. Libraries have always been a second home to me, whether studying, doing research, or just reading a newspaper.
Presently, I am a Resource Teacher at Kilbride Public School. I began my teaching career 23 years ago in Milton at Sam Sherratt, and have also taught at E. W. Foster, Brant Hills, and Stewarttown Middle School.
I often brought my classes to the Bruce Street Library so that students could obtain their own Library card. I still possess my original Milton Public Library card which has a 416 area code preceding the phone number! As a member of the Library Board, I want to ensure that our Libraries will continue to provide the cultural nourishment that our community needs as it grows.
I grew up in Burlington and graduated from the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University with two Bachelor Degrees. As a human resources professional, my career has included private and public sector experiences which have allowed me to live and learn in five different Ontario communities.
In 2011, I joined the Milton Public Library Board to contribute ideas and help shape the future direction of the Library as it flourishes with the community's growth. Contributing to the Board's success continues to be a learning and fulfilling experience, both professionally and personally. Physical libraries or library websites remain great sources of knowledge and programming available to all ages and interests. I encourage Miltonians to visit the Milton Public Library online or in-person to continue expanding their horizons.
My first visit to a library was in Montreal when I came to McGill University to complete my B. Eng. Being a young immigrant to this country, the library was invaluable in providing a community hub to study, collaborate in meeting spaces, and find resources and services to learn about my new environment. Since then, I have lived in Mississauga, ON and Seattle, WA, both of which had great library systems and programs that made it easy to integrate, be a lifelong learner, and continuously enable my career. I moved to Milton five years ago and have always been impressed by the amazing library system we have.
As a member of the Board, I will be working to ensure that the library is serving our diverse community and becoming a community hub that all Miltonians can take advantage of and be proud of. In addition, I want to make sure that the Library is continuously evolving and transforming to provide the right services and programs in an ever-increasing digital world.
I would encourage everyone in Milton to visit the library and take advantage of all the programs and services. Whether you are newcomer to Milton, are looking for help with homework and need some quiet space, or are even thinking about starting a small business, the Milton Public Library has beneficial offerings to help you. The Milton Public Library staff work hard to ensure that we meet your needs and we look forward to seeing you there.
I have been a resident of Milton, since moving from East York in 2008 with my wife and two stepsons. I own and operate a computer networking consulting business with my wife, which we established in 2004 after working for over a decade teaching technology across Canada and the United States. I’m also a classically trained pianist from the Royal Ontario Conservatory of Music and was elected to council for the Town of Milton in Ward 1 in 2014.
I enjoy supporting and giving back to the community in various ways. I’m the co-founder and co-chair of Milton Business Connections (MBC), a local group of small business owners who meeting regularly to share referrals, ideas, and hold an annual charity fundraiser. In 2013, MBC raised over $5,000 for the Milton District Hospital Foundation. In June of 2016, MBC raised over $6,500 for the Milton District Hospital Foundation for the first-ever Murder Mystery Charity Dinner Theatre co-hosted by The Mohawk Inn and Conference Centre in Campbellville.
I was elected to the Milton Public Library Board in 2015 and am looking forward to helping to shape library services for our community.
I’m a 10-year resident of Milton and proud husband and father of three girls. You’ll most often find me at a gym, a pool, a hockey rink or the kids section of the library. I have a Bachelor degree in Economics and hold CMA and CFA designations. My professional career spans 25 years of management consulting and the last 15 years at BMO Financial Group where I am currently the Head of Customer Analytics and Financial Modeling. I also serve on several industry boards and am a member of the Centennial College School of Business advisory committee. I am a strong believer in life-long learning and the role that the Milton Public Library plays in furthering that goal for all citizens. I am looking forward to contributing to the progress of the Milton Public Library through Milton’s rapid growth, and hope to help drive our strategy of growth, diversity and sustainability.
I have a deep connection to libraries. Throughout high school we lived in a condo, which got crowded at times with seven of us living there. As a result, I relied very heavily on the public library system for my study space. After high school, I went to the University of Waterloo where I once again depended on the library system for not just study space, but also books that I otherwise could not afford to purchase. Now as a parent, I have passed on my love for books and libraries to my three children.
Professionally I work for Amazon as a Software Development Manager and am serving my second term as a Milton Town Councillor. In addition to serving in the Milton Council Interview Committee and the Milton Economic Development Advisory Committee, I am a Director for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton.
I joined the Milton Public Library Board in 2015 to help guide the library’s future and ensure a successful launch of the second branch in Ward 8.
I was born in 1950, and raised as well as educated in the Montreal area and am fluently bilingual. In 1968, at the ripe old age of 17, I enlisted in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper where I served for three years, including two combat tours in Vietnam. Upon completion of my service, I returned home and after a few years of working in the transportation industry, I started a career in the automotive aftermarket as a sales representative for Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company. I served as district manager for Quebec and the Maritimes until I was promoted to the position of National Sales and Marketing Manager in 1980 and transferred to Toronto. After spending a year in Oakville and six in Georgetown, I eventually settled in Milton where we have lived in the same house for the past 29 years. During this time, I have coached minor league baseball and lacrosse, played slo-pitch in the Brookville and Milton ‘over 35 leagues’ and currently play in the Milton ‘over fifty league’. I spent 12 years as a member of the Milton and District Kinsmen Club, including two years as President. I became involved politically in the 90s and served as Milton Local and Regional Councillor for Wards 2 and 4 between 1997 and 2003 and was re-elected to council in the 2010 and 2014 elections as Local Councillor for Ward 4.
I was raised in Windsor, Ontario and graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. I obtained my Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. I have since been called to the Bar in Michigan, Ontario and Florida and have practiced law in the field of personal injury under the employ of Haber & Associates.
Throughout my life, libraries have provided me with a place to study and conduct research, as well as a place to meet friends. The traditional notion of a library as a quiet place has been replaced with the modern concept of the library as a central location encouraging the community to get involved. As a member of the Milton Public Library Board, I hope to encourage further new concepts within the library and increase resources in the library that will be used by the Milton community.
Shortly after moving to Milton in 2013, my husband and I were blessed with our first child. As my son grows up, he will be encouraged to learn about the library’s resources and participate in the programs the library offers.
Born and raised in London, Ontario, I am a graduate of Western University with an Honours BA in History and a Master of Library and Information Science. I spent the early part of my working career with the Etobiocoke and Brampton Public Library systems. In my mid-thirties I decided to return to school and earned my Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and my Masters of Education from Brock University. I have worked for the Halton District Catholic Board as an elementary teacher, Vice-Principal and Principal since 1990. My continuing passions have been early literacy, life-long learning and creating opportunities for children to participate and learn. I look forward to being able to read, learn, create and connect for people of the Milton community. I am an avid runner, canoeist and cottage lover who enjoys every opportunity for outdoor activities.
