Interlibrary Loans

Notice to Patrons:

You may have become aware of the announcement late on the afternoon of Thursday 18th April, 2019 by SOLS (www.sols.org) that they will be suspending the ILLO delivery service, as a result of reduced funding. Currently MPL relies on the SOLS ILLO couriers to deliver all ILLO requests.

However, we want to re-assure you that we do not believe that the announcement by SOLS should negatively impact our patrons. As such, MPL is currently investigating alternatives to the SOLS ILLO courier service and hope to have a solution within the next few weeks.

Until that time, unfortunately the ILLO service will be temporarily unavailable.  What does this mean for you?

  • Please return items currently on loan through ILLO to your local branch by the due date, as usual. Renewals and extended loan periods are not available.
  • Current requests for an item through ILLO not yet received : all requests are cancelled.

In the interim we would also like to remind you of the reciprocal borrowing arrangements we have in place with other libraries in the region.

Milton Public Library customers reciprocal borrowing arrangement ensures you are able to borrow a limited number of items from neighbouring library systems in Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Hamilton and Wellington County.

If you cannot find the item you want at MPL, please visit the online catalogues of these neighbouring libraries to see if they have the item in their collection. As a registered reciprocal borrower, you can place holds and borrow directly from these systems.

As we have more information and as we move forward with a solution, we will keep this page updated.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
